Delaware has enrolled 70 percent of its high schoolers in career “pathways.” These are programs at both regular and vocational high schools where students take a sequence of courses in fields like healthcare, construction or education. Many also earn early college credits or industry certifications, and some participate in internships or apprenticeships.
Early results look promising until you see how many students change direction. Which may not be a bad thing… |

And…
The College Scorecard, a free tool from the Department of Education, was designed to steer students toward colleges and majors that lead to higher earnings. But a new study in the journal Research in Higher Education finds it barely affected where students applied or enrolled.
The upshot: Simply providing more information doesn’t necessarily change behavior.
The researchers also warn that it may become harder to evaluate tools like the Scorecard in the future because last year, the U.S. Department of Education discontinued major data surveys that track students from high school into the workforce.
